Ojai an idyllic and picturesque place to relax!

On our vacations in California, we travel a lot by car. We love to drive through the beautiful nature and enjoy the beautiful views. One of our favorite trails runs through the Los Padres National Forest to Ojai.

The drive there offers great views of wildly overgrown mountains and wild ravines and the winding roads are lined with lemon trees. There is hardly any traffic and you can enjoy the wonderful sight of the impressive landscape.

This time everything was different and we had a terrible sight!

The Thomas Fire, which ignited on 4 December in Santa Paula, has also destroyed much of the Los Padres National Forest north of Ojai. The sight of the burnt down barren landscape on the hills was awful, and the sparsely growing new green does not change that. On the contrary, it makes you even more aware of what the fire has done for immense damage.

It burned for more than a month, large parts of southern California went up in flames and some 18,000 hectares of land fell victim to fire.

This charming little town, with less than 8,000 inhabitants, is the smallest town in Ventura County and is only 45 km from our home.

Ojai is a lovely place with small-town flair far away from the city noise and the freeways. A sleepy and beautiful town surrounded by a beautiful landscape with citrus groves and mountains. There are many ways to recover from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The rest in Ojai appreciate the celebrities!

Many celebrities such as Anthony Hopkins, Reese Witherspoon, Channing Tatum and Cameron Diaz love the town and have a home here. The actor Larry Hagman and the musician Jonny Cash once lived here in the magical hills of the Ojai Valley.

On the streets are more locals than tourists on the way and you have the feeling that everything runs a bit slower. Especially in spring, the fragrance of fresh mandarins is the Ojai Pixies in the air, which are grown in the hills.

We like to stroll through the city's arcade where art galleries, restaurants, boutiques and gift shops line up.

Sometimes we eat a delicious ice cream and now and then we treat ourselves to a glass of wine in the idyllic garden of a wine tavern.

A visit to Libbey Park is a must when visiting Ojai with our grandson. There is a beautiful children's playground where he can climb, slide and romp around. We can watch him comfortably from the adjacent Pichnickplatz.

Libbey Park is also home to the Libbey Bowl, where the Ojai Music Festival and many other events take place throughout the year.

The charming city of Ojai offers countless opportunities to relax or experience adventures!

  • Dear Sigrid,

I have never heard of this city. Ojai looks really idyllic ... just like I like it. That's why I save your tip right away. Thank you so much!

    best regards

  • Very nice impressions again! But with the fire was really intense, I followed at that time.

    Best regards,

    • You can not describe how awful everything looks there now. I would like to move there, but the many fires scare me.
      best regards
      Sigrid
