If you're interested in the history of Los Angeles, the Paramount Ranch is sure to be just as enjoyable as the studio tour of Paramount Studios itself. I highly recommend it!
Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills
The Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills is a piece of Hollywood history.
My son had planned a surprise for our last day of vacation. He said we take a trip to a small, beautiful park for a walk. We drove along Highway 101 and turned south on Kanan Road. We drive this road often and I thought he wants to Malibu. But no, after 500 meters we went left into Cornell Road and then after about 3 km we stopped in a parking lot to an old western town.
A few feet on foot and we were standing in front of the Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills, a lesser-known tourist attraction. This little place is tucked away in the mountains and we would never have found it, but probably never looked for it because we knew nothing of its existence. It's not the usual LA attraction, and yet it's part of Hollywood's history and a great place to take photos. The Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills is a real step back in time in the old Wild West movies.
There are some Los Angeles-based movie ranches that are still used for outdoor recordings of numerous movies and TV shows, as well as the Paramount Ranch. But this is one of the few that is accessible as a national park to the public.
I was thrilled to discover this place.
You walk along the old gravel roads and can not believe that you are very close to LA. It's fun to walk through the set of old Hollywood movies. The Paramount Ranch in Agora Hills was the scene of films of the 30s and 40s. Beau Henare and Wells Fargo, as well as the series Quinn the Medicin Woman were filmed here. At the station you will find the 180 degree bend of the former Paramount Racetrack. This served as a backdrop for racing films. Elvis also drove a race car here.
A complete list of productions shot here on the ranch can be found in the office near the entrance. Weekends take place from time to time and marriages can be there as well.
Everything was prepared for a wedding during our visit.
It was a lot of fun walking the streets and exploring the buildings all made of wood, there is a salon, supermarket, stables, train station, hotel and church.
There are also two prisons, for bad guys ... .. laugh!
Out of the city park you will find various hiking trails and beautiful views. There are picnic tables for a break and there are public toilets. If you're lucky, then you get a few attractions shown by a knowledgeable ranger.
