THE SEVEN MAGIC MOUNTAINS IN THE MOJAVE DESERT!

We had already seen many pictures of these colorful boulders in the middle of the desert. Created by the Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone, this work of art is considered an absolute must in Las Vegas . Because the exhibition is scheduled to close in 2018, we wanted to take the opportunity to visit these seven rock towers. It could be that they will not be available on our next visit.

Since they can be seen on Interstate 15 in the desert landscape and we had to drive this route anyway to get to our family in Los Angeles , it has offered.

We were expected in the afternoon in California and wanted to stop before a stop at Peggy Sues. We do this every year and this time we did not want to give up our delicious James Dean Burger.

So we left the player metropolis early on the last day to have enough time to look at the Seven Magic Mountans.

From Las Vegas we drove on Interstate 15 to Sloan Road. There, at the intersection, a sign showed us that we had to turn left onto Las Vegas Boulevard.

After about 11 kilometers, about 30 minutes from Las Vegas, we saw the colorfully painted towers of the Seven Magic Mountans and the associated visitor parking lot from afar.

These seven neon-lit pillars, made of a total of 33 stones, rise from the breathtaking and barren landscape of the Mojave Desert. They provide a great contrast to the rugged cliffs of the surrounding mountains. Each tower is more than 10 meters high and consists of limestones that have been painted in bright neon colors.

In search of the right photo motive!

Many people romped around this place in the desert this morning. Photographers with professional equipment searched for the right place and the best angle to capture the orange, yellow, green, blue and pink towers in pictures.

Tourists stood in front of the colorful stones and posed like models, although I noticed that pink was very popular for a souvenir photo.

As you can see, I also steer purposefully towards the pink tower in order to be photographed in front of it and also Klaus, who really does not like the color, liked to pose in front of it!

There is a short walk from the car park to the Seven Magic Mountains, but be sure to watch where you step. There are warning signs everywhere in front of venomous snakes, such as rattlesnakes, which you should pay attention to. The bite of a snake could be very unpleasant and that of a rattlesnake life-threatening.

Tip from me!

Since it is very hot in the desert, you should take something to drink while visiting the Seven Magic Mountains. Also apply sunscreen, it would be advisable if you do not want to get sunburned, because the desert offers no shade.

  • I know a photo there, someone has photographed a hand in such a way that it looks as if it umschnippst the columns. I thought that was also funny. Nice article. Happy to read.

    • That's right, for photos this is a great place. But you also notice that, quite a few make their instafotos there, yes even climb on the stones.

    • Thank you dear Verena,
It is very impressive to drive through this desert, there is more to see than just arid desert landscape.
We were already thrilled with the Red Rock, but these colorful towers in the middle of the pampa are a bit bizarre.
      Lovely wishes

  • Very nice report. So a USA trip would interest me and also Las Vegas and Co. I'm just unsure if I really had so much fun in the Pampa rumzufahren. Sone barren desert landscape, I find but then what Fad, despite colorful stones.
The tips are really good and actually good for any trip. I almost always have a bottle of water with me. Grade at the temperatures there, a true lifesaver.
    Best regards,

    • If you are in Las Vegas you will definitely want to explore the area yourself and need some rest. Only hotels or the Strip can be exhausting.

  • That looks great, because you can take great photos. Too bad that it will be dismantled soon. These columns are really huge.

    Greetings, Bea.

    • It's a bit strange to see these pillars in the middle of the desert. No one expects it to find something there.
      best regards

  • I have never heard of the place!

Whether the shashliks often have to refill? 😀
