The 195,000-acre Red Rock Canyon is less than 20 km from the Las Vegas Strip and is a popular tourist attraction alongside the Hoover Dam. He is the ideal place to escape for a short time the hustle and bustle of this large and turbulent city.

The Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area is located just a few miles west of Las Vegas in the Mojave Desert. It is easily reached by car in about 30 minutes.

For us, this was not the first time we were in Vegas, but the first visit to the Red Rock Canyon nature reserve. In our hotel of course tours were offered there by jeep. But we had a rental car and wanted to explore on their own the area. Also we could thereby determine the duration of our stay. We love to drive through the countryside by car and like to spend a lot of time on our excursions.

erwartete uns ein Traum in den verschiedensten Farben. After about half an hour drive through a very impressive landscape , we expected a dream in a variety of colors. große, in allen Rottönen leuchtende Felsformationen, Sandsteingipfel und hohe Felswände lag vor uns. A towering and unique sight on large, all-red glowing rock formations, sandstone peaks and high cliffs lay before us.

in diesem Gebiet die weltweit interessantesten, buntesten und schönsten Gesteinsformationen befinden sollen. We have heard that this area is the world's most interesting, colorful and beautiful rock formations. But we did not expect this wonderful and impressive sight.

Who would have thought that the real beauty of the desert would suddenly show itself outside of the artificially created giant metropolis Las Vegas. We were fascinated by the landscape and the colors of the bizarre rock formations that glowed in red and orange. One had the impression that the hot afternoon sun would make the stones glow and they soon start to burn.

Through the park leads a 21 km long road, which you can travel comfortably for $ 15 by car. The journey takes about one and a half hours and there are several stops. From there you can take pictures or take a hike. In the Red Rock Canyon there are almost 50 km of hiking trails, many climbing opportunities and some Pichnickplätze, where you can take a break

We chose the latter because it was very hot and too strenuous for hiking. From the square we could just enjoy the heavenly peace, taking pictures and watching the birds in the blue sky.

The short trip to the Red Rock Canyon we liked it and we will certainly repeat it in cooler weather. Of course we want to do a hike there and explore the wonderful area on foot.

If you have planned a trip to Las Vegas, I highly recommend a trip to Red Rock Canyon.

The difference between the metropolis of Las Vegas and the colorful landscape in the desert is really impressive.

  • Looks wonderful! I have never been there in the Mojave, but I remember a trip through Bryce Canon. I heard the blood rushing in my head, because it was so incredibly quiet, like never before in life! These national parks are just terrific !!! Thank you! VG! Sirit

    • Yes, this silence was fantastic but at the same time something unreal. It is a wonderful place to rest.

  • Las Vegas is not my first destination right now, but I see it's always worth the effort to get out of the city and into nature, wonderful!

    • We love this vibrant city a lot, but every now and then to find some peace and quiet from the hustle and bustle is quite pleasant.

  • It's so nice to be able to visit so quiet and sprawling places next to the vibrant and exciting Las Vegas. That's the US and that's what I love about it. Like in Florida, Miami the big colorful city where a lot is going on and within a short time you are on the keys and can find your peace. Just great.

    Many greetings Anja

    • That's exactly what I love about this country. This versatility that surprises you again and again.

  • Oh, it is beautiful there. The pictures are so great. Since I would have taken the longer trip in purchasing. Glorious.

    Greetings, Bea.

  • 1.5 hours for 21 km? Is that because of the breaks or because the road is so bad? The landscape is really stunning. Snd the vulture in the sky?

    • That's because of the breaks, of course you can do it much faster. If you want to look at everything you need this Zrit.
      Greetings # Sigrid

  • What a stunning landscape. Mother Nature is truly unique and admirable. Your pictures are really beautiful. Thank you for Daran-sharing 😉
